Top 20 Firm Expands National Commercial Real Estate Appraisal and Advisory Presence to West Coast

June 2, 2010  (Bethesda, Md.) – Reznick Group, a top 20 national CPA firm, today announced the appointment of John Mackel as a Senior Manager in the firm's Valuation and Transaction Advisory Group ("VTAG").  Based in the firm's Los Angeles office, Mackel will expand the firm's national focus on commercial real estate appraisal, valuation and advisory.

Mackel will serve a broad base of clients including public and private equity funds, pensions, REITs, developers and lenders. Mackel will focus on appraisal, appraisal review and appraisal consulting services for financial reporting (Accounting Standards Codifications 805 and 820), acquisitions, debt and equity financing, buy/sell, estate/income tax purposes, litigation support, and strategic planning.

Mackel brings to Reznick Group more than 12 years of appraisal and advisory experience to the firm and joins Reznick Group from Cushman & Wakefield in Los Angeles.  Previously, he held a position at American Realty Advisors, and was also with Ernst & Young Kenneth Leventhal's Real Estate Advisory Group for more than eight years. His appraisals and consultations have been on a variety of properties, including office buildings, regional malls, neighborhood and community shopping centers, apartment complexes, drugstore chains, golf courses, live-stage theaters, residential developments, and industrial buildings. His appraisals have also included commercial and residential-zoned vacant and improved land. These studies have been in conjunction with real estate portfolio and joint-venture valuations, mergers and acquisitions, internal planning, highest and best use analyses, litigation support and financing.

Mackel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a concentration in Real Estate & Finance from the College of Business and Economics at California State University, Northridge.  He is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and a Candidate Member for the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation. He is a member of the AICPA, an associate member of the Appraisal Institute, and a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser for the States of California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
